College Internship ProgramOver the past several years, Bakers Square Restaurants has been developing their college internship program, specifically working with U.W. Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin (Baldridge Quality Award Winner 2001). The college internship program provides an opportunity for students to gain first-hand knowledge about being a restaurant manager with Bakers Square in addition to providing the student with the knowledge and experience necessary to help them in their college career. The typical student intern is a college junior or senior majoring in Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism or General Business Administration. Internships are eight weeks in length, during which time the student is paid a competitive hourly wage. The work week is 40 hours per week and involves a variety of shifts. The first seven weeks of the internship program follows our management training program. The intern will spend these weeks learning various crew, supervisory and management functions. During the last week, the intern will be running shifts with another member of the management team. Many students have returned to join our management program after completion of their college degree.
